The Kerala Prisons Department will launch a pilot project using AI-powered surveillance drones at Viyyur Central Prison in Thrissur. The drones can perform facial recognition, estimate inmate numbers, detect buried objects and identify unauthorised flying devices. Authorities said the technology could improve perimeter monitoring and prevent escape attempts. The system may be expanded to other prisons if the pilot proves successful.
