Assam records landmark release of captive-bred slender-billed vultures

Assam has recorded a landmark conservation milestone with the release programme for captive-bred slender-billed vultures, a critically endangered species. Five birds bred at the Rani Vulture Conservation Breeding Centre were moved to a soft-release aviary in the Biswanath Wildlife Division for acclimatisation before release into the wild. Each bird was fitted with identification and satellite tracking equipment. The breeding centre, established in 2007, has produced dozens of slender-billed vultures as part of efforts to rebuild wild populations.
