A 13-year-old girl from Texas suffered a serious hand injury when a barracuda bit her in shallow water during a trip to Turks and Caicos. A nurse applied a tourniquet before she received hospital treatment, and doctors expect recovery after surgery for damaged tissue and tendons. The girl said the incident had not changed her ambition to become a marine biologist. Her family warned swimmers to remove shiny jewellery that may attract predatory fish.
