Decision on declaring drought by August end, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar

Karnataka will decide by the end of August whether parts of the state should be officially declared drought-affected, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said. The government is reviewing rainfall, reservoir levels, crop conditions and district reports before taking a final decision. A drought declaration would allow special relief measures, compensation and support for farmers facing crop losses, water shortages and rising input costs.
