The European Union’s crisis response chief has urged governments to increase wildfire funding, improve forest management and strengthen public education as severe fires burn in France and Spain. The EU has mobilised aircraft, firefighters and satellite mapping through its Civil Protection Mechanism. Officials warned that hotter and drier conditions linked to climate change are making fires spread faster and increasing the need for year-round preparedness.
