FA bans unsafe pitchside perimeter walls after Billy Vigar’s death

Football authorities in England have moved to ban or remove unsafe perimeter walls close to pitches following the death of former Arsenal academy player Billy Vigar. Vigar, 21, suffered a fatal brain injury after colliding with a concrete wall while playing for Chichester City in September 2025. His death prompted an FA safety review and calls from players and supporters for fixed brick and concrete structures to be kept away from playing areas. Clubs are being required to address hazardous boundaries around pitches.
