FAA orders inspections of about 471 Boeing 737 Max aircraft for cracks

The US Federal Aviation Administration has ordered inspections of an estimated 471 Boeing 737 Max aircraft for possible cracks in a fuselage component known as the bear strap, which supports the area around exit doors. No such cracks have been found in Max aircraft, but similar damage was identified on older 737 Next Generation models with related design and construction. Inspections are due to begin in September. Boeing said it supports the directive and has been working with airlines on the issue since 2019.
