Islamist violence is used by the far right to portray Muslims as a collective threat, while racist attacks and anti-Muslim campaigns help extremist recruiters claim that Muslims cannot belong in German society. Security specialists warn that this cycle of provocation, fear and retaliation can accelerate radicalisation and make prevention more difficult.
