BMW plans to cut up to 8,000 jobs in Germany through a workforce restructuring programme that includes voluntary severance. The carmaker is seeking to reduce costs as profits fall under pressure from weaker sales in China, intense competition, currency effects and changing regulations. BMW says it must become leaner and more agile while investing in future vehicles and technology. Labour representatives are involved in the programme, which is expected to run through the end of 2027.
