Germany’s AfD widens nationwide polling lead
Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany, or AfD, has extended its lead in a new nationwide opinion poll. The survey shows the party continuing to gain ground while Germany’s established democratic parties maintain their formal refusal to cooperate with it. At the same time, the polling indicates growing public support for allowing case-by-case cooperation in some decisions. The figures add to pressure on mainstream parties, which have so far struggled to stop the AfD’s rise in national polling.
