Israeli activity near the Tayasir checkpoint in the occupied West Bank has raised Palestinian fears that a new settlement is being established. Mobile homes were brought to a former military position and land was levelled for facilities, according to local officials. Community leaders say the move could further restrict movement and expand Israeli control in the Jordan Valley. Israeli settlements and unauthorised outposts in occupied territory are widely considered illegal under international law.
