Kerala Electricity Demand Rises by Around 1,000 Megawatts

Kerala’s electricity demand has increased by approximately 1,000 megawatts compared with the previous year, according to Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan. Reduced rainfall and declining water levels in reservoirs have limited the state’s ability to generate hydropower. He also alleged that the previous government’s cancellation of a long-term electricity contract had forced Kerala to purchase power at higher prices, adding to the challenges created by the rise in consumption.
