Kerala’s Prisons Department is preparing to evaluate AI-powered surveillance technology after launching a pilot project at Viyyur Central Prison. The drones are expected to assist with facial recognition, perimeter monitoring, inmate counting and detection of suspicious activity. If the trial proves successful, authorities plan to consider expanding the system to other prisons across the state.
