Supreme Court Declines Urgent Hearing on Alleged Police Action
The Supreme Court declined to take suo motu cognisance of, or urgently list, a petition alleging excessive police action against student protesters. The Chief Justice advised the petitioners to pursue the appropriate legal remedies available to them. The court also indicated that claims should not be pursued solely on the basis of videos circulated through social-media platforms. The petition concerned allegations about the manner in which police handled the continuing student demonstrations.
