Utility-scale battery storage capacity in the United States grew at an average annual rate of 70% over the past three years, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Operational nameplate capacity reached 43.6 gigawatts by the end of 2025, and operators added another 8.3 GW in the first half of 2026, taking the total to nearly 52 GW. Developers report plans for another 54 GW over the next two and a half years, including 14 GW expected in the second half of 2026.
