US moves to shut organ procurement group after safety allegations

The US government has begun the process of decertifying Kentucky-based organ procurement organisation Network for Hope, citing alleged safety failures. One central allegation concerns a 2021 case in which the group’s predecessor was accused of pressing ahead with organ-donation preparations even after a man who had overdosed showed signs of waking. The procedure did not occur and the man survived. Network for Hope disputes the allegations and says it will appeal the government’s decision.
