Virunga checkpoints strengthen Ebola surveillance in eastern DRC

Virunga National Park has set up six health checkpoints and deployed paramedics and rangers as part of the Ebola response in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Travellers are screened through temperature checks, handwashing stations and first-level isolation facilities, while information is sent to the national public-health institute. Park officials said two suspected cases had been identified and referred. The measures also seek to reduce the risk to endangered mountain gorillas.
